Yoga
The word Yoga means ‘union’.
Yoga is a holistic science dedicated to creating a union between body, mind, and breath. By controlling the breath and holding the body in steady poses or ‘asanas’ yoga creates harmony and balance within. It not only helps with releasing stress and anxiety but also greatly improves focus and alertness. It has medical benefits too and helps boost immunity.
This profound ancient practice has its origins in India and is continuing to benefit millions of people around the world.
Ashtanga & Hatha Yoga
In Sanskrit, Ashtanga is the combination of ‘Ashta’ + ‘Anga’, ‘Ashta’ means eight and ‘Anga’ means limbs. It’s an eight limb yoga path. The Yoga Sutras written by Sage Patanjali thousands of years ago prescribes an eight step blueprint for controlling the mind’s restlessness and enjoying lasting peace.
The word ‘Hatha’ is derived from the Sanskrit terms ‘Ha’ + ‘Tha’, ‘Ha’ meaning Sun and ‘Tha’ meaning Moon. This refers to the balance of feminine energy (cool, devotion, emotional, nurturing) and masculine energy (active, assertive, hot, dominant). Hatha Yoga is the path towards creating balance and uniting the opposites. Hatha Yoga is a catalyst to an awakening of the feminine and masculine energies in our bodies.
